When a customer asks us about scratches, the first thing we do is check the depth. Here is the simple test you can do yourself at home right now:
Run your fingernail across the scratch

The scratch is surface level — we can fix it. Paint correction will restore the gloss and remove the mark.

Deep scratch — may still be repairable but will require extra work and additional cost. We assess each case honestly.
Also look for areas that appear dull or matte instead of shiny. That is usually sun damage to the clear coat — and unfortunately that cannot be repaired by detailing. The fingernail test is the fastest way to know if your scratches are fixable before you call anyone.
What Is Paint Correction and How Does It Work?
Paint correction is a professional service that targets swirl marks, scratches, and surface damage on your vehicle's paint. At Prime Shine our paint correction process includes:
Iron Removal
Pulling out embedded iron particles from the paint surface before any polishing begins.
Clay Bar Treatment
Removing bonded surface contaminants that washing alone cannot remove.
Hand Wash
Cleaning the vehicle thoroughly before any correction begins — no machine washes.
Machine Polish (1 or 2 Step)
One step for lighter damage, two steps for more severe scratches and swirl marks.

What Scratches CANNOT Be Fixed by Paint Correction?
We are always honest with our customers. There are scratches and damage we cannot fix — and anyone who tells you otherwise is not being truthful.
✗ Beyond Paint Correction — These Need a Body Shop
- Scratches that go all the way through the paint with no paint remaining
- Sun-burned areas where the clear coat is completely gone
- Very deep scratches that penetrate through all layers of paint
When there is no clear coat or paint left to work with, there is nothing we can do. Those areas need a professional paint job — not a detail. If someone tells you they can fix sun-burned paint with polishing, do not believe them.
The Ford Taurus in Bad Shape
A Ford Taurus came to us in pretty bad shape — swirl marks and scratches everywhere. The main problem was very deep scratches, most likely caused by years of automatic car wash use.
We were honest with the customer from the start. We took care of most of the damage, but the areas with deep scratches and sun damage could not be fully repaired. The result was still much better than before — the car looked significantly improved and the customer was happy with what we were able to restore.

After paint correction we always recommend protecting the freshly corrected paint so the results last as long as possible:

Gives your paint temporary protection of around 3 to 6 months. A great option if you want to maintain the results without a large investment.
Ceramic Coating
Protects your paint for 2 to 5 years — keeping those scratches and swirl marks from coming back as fast. The best long-term investment after paint correction.

The number one cause of swirl marks and scratches we see is automatic car washes. Every time you run your car through one of those machines, the spinning brushes leave micro scratches in your paint.
